China hits back by raising tariffs on imported American products from 84 per cent to 125 per cent after the U.S. raising tariffs on China earlier this week.

Wall Street and international markets are on the decline once again amid tariff turmoil following yesterday's late rally after President Donald Trump paused some tariffs.

On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump put a 90-day pause on his sweeping new 'reciprocal tariffs' on countries facing rates higher than his 10 per cent baseline.

The pause was announced hours after his global tariff policy took effect, capping a chaotic week for global financial markets and uncertainty about the world economy.

U.S. President Donald Trump has long argued that tariffs are necessary to counteract America's trade deficit with global partners, including China.

The European Union says it will launch its first counter-tariffs on U.S. imports beginning next week on a range of products from food to motorcycles, clothing and dental floss.

Although Trump's latest tariffs include a massive 104 per cent levy on U.S. imports of Chinese products, markets in China reversed early losses, gaining ground on Wednesday.

Beijing also added an array of countermeasures after U.S. President Donald Trump raised the total tariff on imports from China to 104 per cent. 

The Commerce Ministry said the U.S.‘s imposition of 'so-called ‘reciprocal tariffs’' on China is 'completely groundless and is a typical unilateral bullying practice.'

European and Asian shares saw dramatic losses, the leading U.S. index flirted with bear market territory in pre-market trading, and oil prices sagged.

Stock markets worldwide, including Bay and Wall Streets, as well as commodities like oil and gold continued a sell-off after China retaliated for U.S tariffs.

Tiny tropical islands and remote Arctic outposts with no populations are among the countries and territories that now face at least 10 per cent U.S. tariffs, with some far higher.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said tariffs on egg imports meant to ease a supply shortage were possible and negotiations with affected countries were ongoing.

The White House released a list more than 150 countries and territories that would see at least a 10 per cent 'reciprocal tariff' from the U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to roll out taxes on imports from other countries on Wednesday. He says they will free the U.S. from reliance on foreign goods.
