Aston Martin has taken wraps off the DB12 Volante, the stunning open-top counterpart of the recently launched DB12 Coupe. This DB12 Volante now opens up access to a million miles of blue sky while still offering the luxury and power much like the coupe.
The DB12 Volante features an innovative electrically-operated ‘K-fold’ mechanism that features 8 layers of insulation for the fabric roof. The roof takes just 14 seconds to open and 16 seconds to close. Both operations can be done while the car is on the move with speeds of up to 50kmph.
When the roof of the car is removed to make it into a convertible, it will also require strengthening of the chassis and the suspension to maintain the dynamics of the car. Aston Martin has done a few changes to the DB12 Volante to make it rigid with the roof removed. This includes:
At the heart of the DB12 Volante’s exhilarating performance lies a 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The DB12 Volante continues to feature the Adaptive Damping System (ADS) using DTX Dampers with Skyhook technology. Braking is provided by cast-iron 400mm front discs and 360mm rear discs as standard, with an optional Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB).
Aston Martin has not made any changes to the spectacular-looking exterior and luxurious interiors of the Volante. It continues to borrow everything from the DB12 Coupe. The Volante looks stunning with its Swan Wing opening frameless doors. Interestingly the convertible GT sportscar has seating for 4 including the driver.
Exclusive to the DB12 Volante is the option of wood veneer or carbon fibre panels on the seatbacks matched to the door trim inlay.
The DB12 Volante can be further customised under ‘The Q’ by Aston Martin’s personalization service. This ultra-luxury offering allows customers to personalized craftsmanship, from minute details to entirely bespoke components, turning their DB12 Volante into a unique automotive masterpiece.
Aston Martin will showcase the DB12 Volante at the 2023 Monterey Car Week in California. The convertible will be part of prominent events like The Quail and the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance. Production is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2023, with deliveries slated for the fourth quarter of 2023.
