BYD has officially launched the Sealion 06 mid-size SUV in China. The vehicle is available in all-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. Prices in China start at 139,800 yuan, which is approximately AED 71,000. The model joins BYD’s Ocean series and is now on sale in China.

The BYD Sealion 06 UAE availability is not confirmed by official dealerships yet. However, the model may be introduced via authorised dealers in the future or through private dealership imports, as seen with other BYD models in the UAE.

All pure electric versions of the BYD Sealion 06 use a rear-wheel-drive layout and are built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture.

The PHEV variants are based on BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i hybrid system. These combine a petrol engine with an electric motor for extended range.

The BYD Sealion 06 features a sealed front grille with split-level LED headlamps. The front bumper includes large corner air intakes. The side profile has flush-mounted door handles and a high beltline. The rear includes a wavy full-width light bar and a roof spoiler. The design is consistent across EV and PHEV versions.

The BYD Sealion 06 electric variants are based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo. These models use either a 400V or 800V system, depending on the trim. The 800V versions offer higher charging efficiency and reduced energy loss.

All plug-in hybrid models use a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor:

The Sealion 06 cabin uses a symmetrical dashboard layout. The steering wheel has a flat-bottom, four-spoke design. The centre console features dual cupholders, a rotary dial, and a compact refrigerator. Two interior colour themes are offered. Seating is configured to support five passengers.

There is currently no official announcement regarding the BYD Sealion 06 launch in the UAE by BYD’s regional dealership network. However, because of the popularity of Chinese and EVs in the UAE, the model may arrive through private importers, if not launched officially by the brand in the country.

Rear boot capacity is 757 litres, expanding to 1,630 litres with rear seats folded. The EV version also includes a 142‑litre frunk.

EV trims have 65.3 kWh (520 km CLTC) or 78.7 kWh (605 km CLTC). PHEV versions use 18.3 kWh (121 km EV range) or 26.6 kWh (170 km EV range), with combined ranges up to 1,670 km.

EV models deliver 228hp  (330 Nm) or 241hp (330 Nm). PHEV variants use a 1.5 L engine (100hp, 126 Nm) plus a 215hp (260 Nm) electric motor.

EV variants are rear-wheel-drive, built on the 400 V or 800 V e‑Platform 3.0 Evo. PHEV trims use front-wheel drive with the DM‑i fifth‑generation hybrid system.

Yes. In PHEV models, the engine remains off up to 80 km/h while the battery charge remains above ~20%. EV mode can be maintained during city use unless speed or battery state mandates ICE activation.
