Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Beats Rimac Nevera & Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Obliterates Nürburgring EV Lap Record
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra just shattered the Nürburgring Production EV lap record, outpacing the Rimac Nevera & Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

Xiaomi, a global tech giant renowned for its diverse product ecosystem from smartphones to smart home devices, has made an indelible mark on the automotive world. Through its subsidiary, Xiaomi Auto, the company has rapidly transitioned from a tech innovator to a formidable force in electric vehicle manufacturing with the debut of the SU7 sedan. However, it’s the high-performance iteration, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, that has truly electrified the automotive world.

Unveiled in July 2024, the SU7 Ultra Prototype, co-developed with battery titan CATL, immediately signaled its track-focused aspirations. On October 24, 2024, a prototype version, driven by British race car driver David Pittard and equipped with non-road legal slick tyres, achieved an astonishing four-door car lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife: 6:46.874. Following this feat, Xiaomi boldly pledged to return with the production-ready SU7 Ultra to claim the Production EV Lap Record.

Xiaomi has now fulfilled its promise. The production-spec SU7 Ultra, equipped with an optional track package available to customers, recorded a staggering lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds on the 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife circuit. This performance unequivocally positions it ahead of the formidable Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which previously held a record of 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has effectively unseated the Croatian electric hypercar, the Rimac Nevera, from its top spot on the production EV leaderboard. The Nevera’s official lap time stood at 7 minutes and 5.29 seconds. This feat firmly heralds the arrival of Chinese car makers on the global circuit, especially in the performance EV sphere.

The SU7 Ultra’s dominance extends beyond this lap time and even beyond the realm of electric vehicles. Onboard footage released by Xiaomi verifies a GPS-measured top speed of 346 km/h, establishing it as the fastest production sedan yet, in both EV and ICE territory. Xiaomi even hints at further potential, stating the car can exceed 350km/h under optimal conditions.

Propelling the SU7 Ultra is a tri-motor electric powertrain giving it all-wheel-drive and delivering a combined output of a colossal 1,527 hp, enabling a 0 to 100km/h acceleration run in a blistering 1.98 seconds. Despite its substantial dimensions (5,113mm long) and weight (2,360 kilograms), the SU7 Ultra demonstrates remarkable agility. Launched in China with a base price of 529,900 yuan (AED 271,276), it represents a compelling proposition in the high-performance EV segment.

While the Xiaomi SU7 has yet to receive an official launch in the UAE, it is currently accessible through select individual importers. Given the increasing influx of advanced Chinese automotive brands into the UAE market, an official launch for Xiaomi’s vehicles is highly anticipated. The first-ever Xiaomi SUV is expected to debut later this year.

This momentous achievement for Xiaomi comes amidst a burgeoning interest in electric vehicles across the region. Adding to its growing hype, on June 7, 2025, Xiaomi and Polyphony Digital announced a groundbreaking collaboration to integrate the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype into the popular racing simulation game, Gran Turismo 7. This significant partnership marks the first time a Chinese-branded vehicle has joined the esteemed Gran Turismo franchise. Xiaomi also has an upcoming Vision Gran Turismo concept car in development for the franchise. This digital inclusion further amplifies the SU7 Ultra’s global recognition.
