Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle division under Geely, has introduced its first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, the Zeekr 9X. This full-size flagship SUV blends electric and combustion power, marking the brand’s expansion into the hybrid market. The pre-sales launch of the Zeekr 9X is scheduled for August 2025 at the Chengdu Auto Show.
Zeekr's new flagship SUV, the 9X, is a plug-in hybrid boasting a 2.0L turbocharged engine combined with three electric motors, generating a total output of 1,381 hp. Pre-sales are set to begin in China at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2025, with a potential UAE release following shortly after. The 9X emphasizes a blend of performance, luxury, and advanced technology, including a spacious interior and a suite of driver-assistance features.
The Zeekr 9X is powered by a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system based on the new SEA-S modular architecture, designed to balance performance and efficiency. At the heart of this powertrain is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 205kW (275hp), providing an efficiency of over 46%, surpassing many typical hybrid engines, including those with 1.5-litre engines.
This power is further complemented by three silicon carbide electric motors that produce a combined peak output of 1,030 kW (1,381 hp). The car achieves remarkable performance with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 240km/h.
The exterior of the Zeekr 9X reflects the modern and bold design language of Zeekr. The SUV features a robust stance with sleek lines and distinctive detailing that signifies its premium position in the market.
The front end showcases a unique grille design, paired with sharp LED headlamps that emphasise the vehicle’s cutting-edge technology. The vehicle’s overall proportions are large enough to provide ample interior space but still retain an aerodynamic look, making it suitable for high-speed driving.
The Zeekr 9X comes in as a full-size SUV with a length of 5,239mm, a width of 2,029mm, and a height of 1,819mm. Its wheelbase measures 3,169mm, contributing to its stable and spacious design.
Although complete details of the interiors are yet to be revealed, the Zeekr 9X focuses on providing a spacious and comfortable environment. With generous dimensions and a large wheelbase, the SUV offers ample space for passengers.
The cabin design reflects the luxury SUV segment, emphasising both comfort and a premium feel without relying on flashy features. Every detail is carefully crafted to enhance the driving experience.
Zeekr has integrated a range of advanced technologies into the 9X, enhancing both the driving and ownership experience. The SUV features a large digital cockpit with a high-resolution display, offering easy access to essential vehicle information.
Additionally, the vehicle supports over-the-air updates, ensuring that the technology can evolve. The hybrid powertrain’s integration with the high-performance battery system allows for efficient energy management, and its connectivity features ensure that the driver remains linked to the vehicle’s performance and energy consumption metrics.
Safety is a core component of the Zeekr 9X, with both active and passive systems designed to protect passengers and assist in preventing accidents. The vehicle is equipped with the latest driver assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and emergency braking systems.
On the passive side, the SUV includes multiple airbags, reinforced safety structures, and other features to ensure maximum protection in the event of a collision.
The Zeekr 9X is set to begin its pre-sales in China at the Chengdu Auto Show, taking place in late August. The vehicle is expected to officially enter the market in Q3 of this year. While there is no fixed launch date for the UAE market yet, the brand’s growing presence in the region and strong demand for hybrids indicate that the vehicle could make its way to the UAE shortly after its initial launch in China.
Enthusiasts can likely expect further announcements regarding the Zeekr 9X’s availability in the Middle East as the pre-sales period unfolds.
