Abu Dhabi Art’s annual fair is set to be bigger than ever, as it prepares to showcase 92 galleries from more than 31 countries. Organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the 15th edition of the fair will take place from November 22nd-26th, 2023 at Manarat Al Saadiyat. Known as an important cultural platform for West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia (WANASA), the fair represents a culmination of Abu Dhabi Art’s year-long visual arts program.
This year’s edition of Abu Dhabi Art aims to spotlight diverse geographies and provide a place of discovery for global art histories. With 37 new galleries and 55 returning galleries, the fair remains committed to welcoming diverse curatorial perspectives and embedding itself in the community. It plays an integral role in the art ecosystem of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
Galleries from around the world will be represented at the fair, with several countries being showcased for the first time, including Georgia, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, and Chile. The presence of such a diverse range of artists and galleries is a testament to the dynamic nature of the local and regional art market.
Dyala Nusseibeh, Director of Abu Dhabi Art, expressed her excitement about the fair’s growth, saying, “This year’s Abu Dhabi Art represents a significant moment in the fair’s history due to its sheer size, with double the number of galleries participating since its early days. By working closely with curators, gallery representatives, galleries, and artists, we are ensuring that our gallery presentations offer unparalleled access to art histories and research, allowing visitors to better understand these wide-ranging global positions.”
The fair will feature various galleries with different focuses. South America will be emphasized through participating galleries such as Dan Galleria, Pablo Goebel Fine Arts, Praxis, Galeria La Cometa, and Casa Zirio. Sustainability will be a focal point with galleries like Kó, LIA RUMMA, THK Gallery, and ADN Galleria. Female artists from the Arab world will be highlighted through galleries including Agial Art Gallery, Galerie Krinzinger, and Wadi Finan Art Gallery. Additionally, galleries will reflect on Hong Kong’s historical and contemporary art landscape.
Alongside the new galleries, 55 returning galleries will take part in the fair. These include Gallery Isabelle Van Den Eynde, Sean Kelly, Hakgojae Gallery, Mazzoleni, HANART TZ Gallery, Galerie Krinzinger, and many others.
The fair’s Modern & Contemporary section will feature 41 participating galleries, such as Rossi & Rossi, Selma Feriani Gallery, and Bernier/Eliades. The Visual Campaign Artist for the 2023 edition is Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, represented by Lawrie Shabibi Gallery in Dubai. Inspired by his birthplace, Khorfakkan, Ibrahim’s work showcases a deep love for the environment and natural beauty. His artwork will define the fair’s visual campaign and be used across marketing materials.
Abu Dhabi Art will continue to announce further details about the fair’s programs and events in the upcoming months. As the fair approaches, art enthusiasts and visitors can anticipate an immersive experience that shines a spotlight on global art and cultural exchange.
