Annapurna Interactive’s Stray Now Available on Xbox
Stray Publisher Annapurna Joins with Former Disney Execs for New Animation Division

Stray, the popular cat-themed Cyberpunk indie game, has finally made its way to Xbox with a brand-new port and tie-in collection of themed cat toys.

The futuristic cat-based exploration game Stray is now available on Xbox after the platform released a port of the former PlayStation console exclusive.

Annapurna Interactive, the game's publisher, posted a brand-new trailer for the game on YouTube to announce the Xbox port, showing some of the game's level design and mechanics with a rough overview of the plot. Released in 2022 as a PlayStation console exclusive, Stray puts players into the role of a street cat who is lost from his litter and must explore a dystopian cyberpunk world in order to find his way back. Players control the cat through a variety of levels and obstacles, which include platforming, stealth, and puzzle sections.

The game was popular for its unique gameplay, utilizing motion-captured animations from real-life cats to emulate feline movements and mannerisms, from the way they walk all the way down to using a couch as a scratching post. Annapurna and developers BlueTwelve Studio won numerous accolades for the game, including Best Debut Indie Game and Best Independent Game at The Game Awards, as well as a Golden Joystick Award for PlayStation Game of the Year in 2022, among several others.

While Stray is BlueTwelve's debut title, publisher Annapurna Interactive has had its name attached to several high-profile indie releases since its foundation in 2016, such as Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild Hearts, and the upcoming Silent Hill: Townfall. BlueTwelve has not revealed plans for their future games, though with Stray and its ports finally finished and set for release, many fans have called for a sequel or follow-up expansion to the game.

Stray was exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and 5 for console players, though it saw a simultaneous launch on PC via Steam as well. With the launch of the Xbox port, however, the title is now available on all platforms, as a Mac port of the game is also set to release soon.

To coincide with the release of the Xbox port, pet product company Travel Cat is working with publisher Annapurna Interactive to release a new line of cat toys themed after the game, such as a replica of the robot character B-12 and the game's main enemy, the Zurk. The Stray collection toys are sold separately from the game on the company's website, which is currently offering pre-orders.

Stray is available on Xbox Series and Xbox One as of Aug. 10, or on PlayStation 4 and 5 and PC through the PlayStation Store or Steam.
