B. Shankaranand was a proud son of Belagavi: Prabhakar Kore

Former Minister B. Shankaranand was a proud son of Belagavi district who brought fame to the district by taking it to the national level, former Rajya Sabha member and chairman of KLE Society Prabhakar Kore has said.

He was speaking at a foundation stone laying ceremony for the installation of a statue of the late leader and renaming of Club Road after him to mark Shankaranand’s birth centenary celebrations in Belagavi on Saturday.

Mr. Kore said that being a humble man, Shankaranand never misused his power and never ill treated any during his long political career. “He has to his credit bringing several development projects to Belagavi. In fact he identified me and brought to me to politics,” he said.

Priyanka Jarkiholi, MP, said that it was a matter of pride for that she was now representing Chikkodi constituency, which was represented by Shankaranand for a record seven times.  Even today Chikkodi Lok Sabha constituency was being identified with Shankaranand, she said.

Recalling his contribution, Abhay Patil, MLA, said that although. Shankaranand did not become Chief Minister, but facilitated the elevation of several other leaders to the CM’s post. “Because of his nature, irrespective of the political affiliations leaders of all parties have joined for the renaming of road and unveiling of the statue,” he said.

Ramesh Katti, former MP, said that during his long political career, Shankaranand indulged in value-based politics and facilitated the growth of leaders from all communities. “People of the region want his family members to enter politics and their wish is that his son Pradeep Kanagali will fulfil their wish,” he said.

Pradeep Kanagali, son of Shankaranand, made introductory remarks while MLA Asif (Raju) Sait presided over the function. Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, B. Shankaranand’s daughter Prof. Chandrama Kanagali, former MLA Firoz Sait and others were present.
