A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 in a dual dispatch area that saw Bridgeport and Clarksburg first responders on the scene resulted in an individual requiring medical transport.
Bridgeport Fire Department Captain Josh Keough said the vehicles involved suffered heavy damage and were both totaled. He said they were towed from the scene.
The accident was called into the Harrison County 911 emergency center at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 28. It took place near the 120-mile marker on the southbound side of I-79, he said.
Keough could not confirm but believes the cause of the accident was related to one of the vehicles striking the jersey wall (the concrete barrier dividing the north and southbound lanes in that area).
One person was taken to United Hospital Center by the Harrison County Emergency Squad. Keough said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but did not have additional information.
The incident did not shut down that area of I-79. However, two of the three lanes were blocked during the accident as crews cleared the area.
“The traffic was not too bad during the accident,” said Keough.
The Bridgeport Police Department joined Bridgeport Fire on the scene. Clarksburg Fire and Clarksburg Police were on the scene, as was the Harrison County EMS. The incident is under investigation.
