Girl seriously injured when car strikes scooter in DeLand, police say

DeLAND, Fla. – A girl riding a scooter was stuck by a car and seriously injured Monday in DeLand, police said.

The crash happened around 3:35 p.m. on South Woodland Boulevard near Gilbert Street.

DeLand police said a man was driving a black Chevrolet north on South Woodland Boulevard and struck the girl who was attempting to cross the road.

The girl was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver, who was not hurt, remained at the scene, police said.

South Woodland Boulevard was closed in the area before reopening about 90 minutes after the crash, which remains under investigation.
