Michael Anthony Morton, 66, of Pleasant Valley, passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2025 in Canton, OH. He was born October 4, 1958 in Miami, FL, a son of the late Nell and Robert D. Morton of Fairmont and Jose Antonio Fernandez of Miami, FL. He is survived by his wife, of 37 years and love of his life, Pamela Matthews Morton.
Mike served as a wrestling official for many years in WV. He traveled the world both professionally and personally with his wife. He was an excellent woodworker, there was nothing he couldn’t fix or build on his own. He always had the answers to any question or problem life posed. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and golf. He was an avid WVU fan, and a huge hockey fan, especially the Penguins. Mike was fun and goofy, and he didn’t know a stranger. He was the life of the party.
Mike loved his family dearly; he was always on the sidelines of all his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. He coached countless wrestling, baseball, and softball teams, as well as a little league coach and president. He never missed a game or match for his kids, no matter how far he needed to travel. He was an amazing husband, dad, father-in-law, and Pop Pop. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Marlee and Beau.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Melanie DeFrance (Josh Tomblin), Chad (Amanda) McClure, Zachary (Elana) Bravet-Morton, Emily (Jonathan Tyler) Torman; his grandchildren: Chelsa Glover, Braelynn McClure, Sylar McClure, Isabella DeFrance, Brantley Bravet-Morton, Kyleigh Bravet-Morton, Braxton Bravet-Morton, Ava Torman, Berkley Torman, and soon to be future granddaughter, Lainey. He is also survived by his brother, Carlos (Kimberly) Fernandez, and their daughter Joanna Fernandez, countless brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews, as well as his aunt Pat Young, cousins Shawn (Amy) Young and their daughters Chelsy and Selah Young, and cousin Staci Burlin and her daughter Emily Depine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Lydia “Tia” Fernandez.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street Fairmont. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will take place.
