Los Angeles weather: Humidity is on its way to Southern California as temperatures rise this week

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — An area of low pressure bringing mild temperatures to Southern California is weakening and will soon move out, making way for a brief, humid heat wave.

That area of low pressure has been pushing across the region, bringing marine layer clouds. Although the mornings are cloudy, the skies should clear up in the afternoon.

A dome of high pressure is expected to move in on Thursday, bringing a brief heat wave that will peak on Friday and bring humidity.

Warm southerly winds will move in right after that, bringing humid air and a chance for showers and thunderstorms this weekend — especially on Sunday and Monday.

Los Angeles and Orange counties Thursday can expect partly cloudy skies with a high of 81 degrees and a low of 58. Temperatures are expected to peak at 87 on Friday before the humidity arrives, bringing a 20% chance for rain on Sunday.

The valleys and the Inland Empire Thursday will see a high of 86 degrees and a low of 58. Temperatures are expected to peak at 94 on Friday before gradually cooling down by the start of the work week. There is a 20% chance of rain on Sunday.

Beaches Thursday can expect a high of 70 degrees and a low of 58. Similar conditions are on tap for the rest of the week, with slight rain chances on Saturday and Sunday.

The mountains Thursday will see a high of 75 degrees and a low of 43. Temperatures are expected to climb to 81 by Friday before Sunday’s 30% thunderstorm chances.

The deserts Thursday can expect a high of 96 degrees and a low of 58. Temperatures will reach triple-digits on Friday before the weekend’s slight cool-off and storm chances.
