Dubai, UAE — Two of the world’s largest and most exceptional natural gemstones have made their first commercial appearance in the UAE, marking a historic milestone in the global gem industry.

A Sri Lankan-born UAE resident is now the sole Guinness World Records holder for these extraordinary treasures — the world’s largest natural Black Star Sapphire, known as The Black Star of Eva, and the world’s largest natural Green Beryl Cat’s Eye, called The Eye of Hope. Together, they are now jointly named “The Guinness Star and the Crescent.”

Officially certified by Guinness World Records in 2024 and further verified by Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), these remarkable stones embody a rare combination of natural wonder, cultural heritage, and unmatched scarcity. Their combined estimated value exceeds USD 500 million (AED 1.8 billion).

The Black Star of Eva

Holding the Guinness World Record as the largest natural Black Star Sapphire, The Black Star of Eva weighs an extraordinary 3,621.35 carats (724.27 grams). Discovered in Sri Lanka and preserved within the owner’s family since the 1920s, the gem represents more than a century of heritage in the gemstone trade.

With its deep black body and flawless star phenomenon, the sapphire stands as a testament to the mystery, power, and prestige of Sri Lanka’s legendary sapphire legacy.

The Eye of Hope

Unearthed in Madagascar, The Eye of Hope is the Guinness World Record holder as the largest natural Green Beryl Cat’s Eye, weighing 854.95 carats (170.99 grams). Its vibrant green body and striking silvery chatoyancy make it one of the most visually captivating gemstone phenomena known to nature.

Symbolically, it has been named as an emblem of unity, liberty, and optimism for all humanity.

Owner’s Statement

“As a Sri Lankan-born UAE resident, I am humbled and proud to hold Guinness World Records for these two extraordinary natural gemstones,” said F.S., the owner. “Together, they are The Guinness Star and the Crescent — treasures of nature that symbolise heritage, hope, and the enduring beauty of our planet’s creations.”

He continued: “The Black Star of Eva, discovered in my homeland of Sri Lanka, carries not only immense rarity but also deep historical significance. The Eye of Hope, discovered in Madagascar, is a masterpiece of nature that inspires unity and optimism. Together, their combined value exceeds USD 500 million.”

He added: “I am deeply grateful to the UAE, a nation that celebrates culture, beauty, and craftsmanship, and to its gemstone lovers who have shown immense admiration for these record-breaking treasures. For me, they are more than possessions — they are a legacy of nature, a tribute to my family’s 100-year gemstone heritage, and an inspiration for future generations to value the rare and the beautiful.”
