SAIC-owned electric vehicle startup, Rising Auto, is making its debut in the Middle Eastern electric vehicle market. At the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS) 2024, the brand unveiled the R7 crossover SUV for the first time in the region.
Rising Auto hasn’t revealed all the details about its official launch and rollout strategy for the UAE. However, showcasing the R7 suggests it will likely be their first offering in the region. The company positions the R7 as a competitor to the Tesla Model Y.
The crossover electric SUV is expected to be offered in three variants:
These variants are further offered with swappable and non-swappable battery packs. The R7 is currently priced between RMB 195,900 and RMB 389,900, which approximately translates to AED 100,000 and AED 200,000.
The R7 is a stylish crossover SUV and it is evident with its sloping roofline at the rear. It features an aerodynamically shaped body with a drag coefficient of 0.238 Cd. Up front, the headlights connect seamlessly with the daytime running lights (DRLs) for a unified appearance. This design element is mirrored in the rear, where a light bar stretches across the back, connecting the taillights on each side.
Other exterior features include:
Step inside the R7, and you’re greeted by a futuristic ambience. A massive triple-screen display dominates the dashboard, while a large panoramic sunroof bathes the interior in natural light. Leatherette upholstery, complemented by ambient lighting, creates a distinctly premium feel.
The 43-inch glass real-estate on the dashboard is split into three screens, which include a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 15-inch infotainment and a 12.3-inch passenger display. Other features highlights include:
Several factors position the R7 for success in the UAE market. Firstly, it taps into the growing trends of Chinese car brands, electric vehicles, and the continued popularity of SUVs. Furthermore, the R7’s feature-rich cabin, impressive performance, and, potentially, a competitive price tag could entice buyers to choose it over existing options in the country.
In addition to the exciting electric vehicle debuts at EVIS 2024, the UAE government unveiled a significant development for the country’s EV infrastructure: the UAEV charging network.
